Three Philosophers is a unique blend of a Belgian-style dark ale and Liefmans Kriek, an authentic cherry ale from Belgium. Cherry chestnut in color, it's opaque but not cloudy with full carbonation topped by a smooth, tan head. Flavors and aromas of roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar, dark fruits, brandied raisins and chocolate, Three Philosophers has notable sweetness with low hop bitterness. The mid-palate shows a soft malt center which gives way to a dry, warm, wine-like finish.
The complexity of this beer make it a good candidate for aging gracefully, as spicy sherry and port notes should intensify. (Description provided by company)

Complex flavors that demand to be savored
The beer poured ruby-brown with a thick, tan head that steadily shrank, leaving no lacing. Brandied cherries, yeast, and caramel malts fill the nose. The taste reminds me of a fruit and nut chocolate bar I enjoy, but with a bitter kick that never lets you forget this is a beer. Feels a bit more carbonated than I would like. Sometimes felt the fizz got in the way of me getting a better taste. Very appealing beer that you need to allow to dominate your attention without distractions from food. It was on the cool side (53 degrees) when I poured it and it was noticeably more rich and tasty after warming up more.
A Beer That Demands Attention
Pours a deep ruby read, slightly translucent held up to a bright light. A thin and fast disappearing head.
Rich and malty nose, with notes of caramel, toffee, dark fruits and cherry. A hint if alcohol on the nose as well.
The rich and fruity malt flavors are dominant in the flavor, with a strong sweetness nicely balanced by the richer malt flavors and a lightly fruity alcohol flavor. A surprisingly quick aftertaste.
A quite medium full body and moderate carbonation.
Rich flavors,a nice depth of flavor, a well-hidden (relatively) high ABV, and a nice, satisfying body make the Ommegang Three Philosophers a beer to savor!
