Grapefruit blends well in beer
UFO Big Squeeze Shandy was an iffy selection for me. While I like the grapefruit smell in IPAs, the hop bitterness is too much for me. My hope was to have a beer with the grapefruit smell without the hops. I got part of what I wanted.
The shandy came out of the bottle looking like cloudy grapefruit juice. There was a head atop the beer for about 7 seconds, not quite long enough for the rodeo. I stuck my nose into the glass and only detected the faintest aroma yet in a nonBig Beer beer. No, really, the grapefruit was very faint and there was nothing else I could detect. Thankfully, things changed as soon as I started drinking. Grapefruit is there with a bit of wheat. Feels like thick juice without the pulp. Definitely a summer thirst quencher.
