From a can

Poured into glass and watched the nearly-black brew form in the glass as the carbonation drifted away, leaving a dense head of tan foam at the top that stuck around for quite a while. While the chocolate and coffee smell is obvious when you smell, it's not the strongest I've ever smelled either in a beer. The taste was a bit more chocolate than the previous stouts I've had. Many stouts have a cafe mocha flavor to them, but Young's Double Chocolate first hit me with a dark chocolate flavor and that evolved into coffee and cream tones. Overall, I find it a good beer, but not particularly fantastic.

Pours a very deep pitch black with an incredibly smooth and full head. A tan head has incredibly long retention and very nice, strong lacing. This beer looks like it means business.

Nose is very rich, with dark chocolate, some subtle roasted and coffee notes. A very pleasing aroma, but not quite as strong as expected.

The taste is strong in chocolate and roasted malt flavors, with a little sweetness that balances some of the bitterness. Low hop flavor and bitterness. A moderately long aftertaste, but it mostly tastes like chocolate. Overall a very nice flavor, although like the nose it is a bit muted.

Very full and smooth body and moderately low carbonation.

A very tasty dessert beer, Young's Double Chocolate Stout has strong chocolate flavors and a nice balanced profile, although the flavor and aroma is a bit muted overall. Not quite a double chocolate - more like 1.25 Chocolate Stout.
