Arggggg, Thar She Blows!
Blackbeard’s Breafast is part of Heavy Seas’ Uncharted Waters series. It’s a bourbon barrel-aged coffee porter and it is black (though thankfully not bearded). Notes of coffee and nuttiness on the nose. The flavor is robust, lots of nut, malt, and coffee (but it isn’t coffee BEAN-flavored. I’ve had some beers brewed with coffee that were just bitter messes), and some fantastic sweetness from the bourbon barrels in the finish. It almost has a bit of a licorice quality to it, but it’s subtle and great.
