I tried Velvet Evil a year ago, my memory was about how luscious of a beer it was. The chocolate and raspberry mingle with the booze so nicely that when I heard Straight to Ale was releasing this year's batch, I got quite excited.

Velvet Evil poured out of the bomber and into my glass caramel colored with a ruby hue. There was a mere wispy ring, but that stuck around the entire time I drank. This looks very luxurious. I kinda want to put on a smoking jacket or tuxedo as I drink it.

Raspberry and bitter sweet chocolate immediately hit my nose. The aroma is so thick, I can practically taste it. There is also lingering sugar and grassy smells when I breathe deep.

The raspberries touch my tongue along with a strong sugary-alcohol zing and then the chocolate comes along to smooth things over. Velvet Evil is one of the richest beers I've had. I don't think it is physically possible to gulp this down. My tongue would overload and I would gag. Like a good bourbon, this is a beer you pour out a small amount and savor it for a while. Oh, and with the power of this old ale, you gotta get a designated driver if you have more than a few sips.

I used to enjoy those liquor-filled chocolates at Christmas. This is the next best thing. Completely liquid, fruit and chocolate bliss that is sophisticated and not "candy" like at all.
